We’ve all heard the phrase, “Time heals all wounds.” But what about the emotional and spiritual injuries we carry inside, the ones we cannot see? These hidden wounds can shape our relationships, our health, and even the way we see ourselves.
For years, I struggled with the effects of my own emotional wounds. I knew something was wrong, but like many, I tried to move on without truly addressing the pain. It wasn’t until I began studying the stages of wound healing in the pathophysiology course I taught to nurses that I realized they mirror the journey of emotional and spiritual recovery.
Just as a physical wound needs careful tending at every stage, so do our unseen wounds. Ignoring them leads to deeper scars, not healing. But acknowledging our pain, processing our emotions, rebuilding healthy support systems, and transforming through the experience can turn suffering into strength.
This is why I wrote Between Wounded and Well: Lessons in Healing. Using the four stages of wound healing as a guide, my book invites you on a journey toward self-awareness, the first step toward renewal.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll share insights from each stage of healing right here on the blog. I hope you’ll join me and share your own experiences in the comments.
